Not every person who watches the Super Bowl does so purely for the game itself. For many, the multi-million dollar commercials or gambling are as much or more of a draw. In that vein, the Super Bowl halftime show draws considerable attention.
This year, pop superstar Katy Perry and special guest Lenny Kravitz will headline the halftime show. The NFL revealed Perry as the top performer back in November. She later announced in January that Kravitz would be joining her.

Perry has sold millions of albums and is best known for hits like “Hot N Cold,” “I Kissed a Girl” and “Firework.” In 2010, her album Teenage Dream became the first to spawn five No. 1 hits since Michael Jackson’s Thriller nearly three decades earlier. More recently, her album Prism produced hits “Roar,” “Dark Horse” and more. Before Perry became a successful pop star, she performed under her given name Katy Hudson as a contemporary Christian rock act.
Jones Jr. might have had the best dunk of the night, dunking off the side of the backboard through his legs.
But his “it’s over†slash was premature — he couldn’t nail his final dunk and Robinson took the title.
DeAndre Jordan, the fourth participant, had two average dunks but didn’t stand out. While Gordon’s drone attempt was creative, he needed too many attempts before throwing it done for it to really be an effective slam.
Look: dunking is already really hard, and the expectations for these contests are sky high. It’s a shame this one fell flat, but it happens. Congratulations to Robinson, who was good even if the rest of it was average.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that outfielder Michael Brantley is behind the other position players in camp and will not be ready to play when the Cactus League schedule begins Feb. 25 against the Cincinnati Reds.
Brantley’s availability for the regular-season opener against Texas on April 3 will depend on the strides he’s able to make in his rehab from surgery to repair a torn right biceps. The Indians will leave that part of the equation up to him.
“He’s following the protocols the medical people put in place,” Francona said. “By all accounts, he’s doing everything. This kid has worked his ass off. We just need to be patient and allow him to try to get to the point where he can not only come back, but stay back.

James Carpenter Youth Jersey A key player is first baseman Ryan Zimmerman. He has been with the Nationals since 2005 but has gone from star to fading franchise player with the back of a 70-year-old. He has something to prove. Dusty has something to prove. Even Harper, coming off a bad season, at least in comparison to his monster 2015 campaign, has something to prove.
Most of all, they have to prove it in October. Maybe baseball can unite our nation’s capital. (OK, maybe not, but it’s worth a try.)
Maybe it starts with the best player in the game. Mike Trout isn’t just the Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle of his generation; he’s Mays or Mantle and doing it against much tougher competition. The caliber of athlete in today’s game, both on the mound and in the field, is better than ever, and Trout is the pre-eminent player, with two MVP awards and three MVP runner-up finishes in his first five seasons. No position player has had more wins above replacement through age 24; he’s at 48.5, and the only others above 40 were Ty Cobb and Mantle. Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr. rank fourth and fifth on the list.
The 2017 NFL offseason is here, which should hopefully spare us from the Super Bowl conspiracy theories for at least a little while. Feb. 15 marks the first day teams are able to designate franchise players. The deadline for teams to utilize the franchise tag, should they choose, is March 1.
With a salary cap that has been increasing on a yearly basis, teams have been more reluctant to use the tag in recent years. Sixteen players have been tagged with either the franchise tag or transition tag over the past two seasons, though there have been plenty of special circumstances surrounding each use.
Last year, the Carolina Panthers opted to rescind their franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman, which made him a free agent. He soon signed with Washington. However, many other players, such as Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller, have signed long-term deals with their team in order to avoid playing the upcoming season under the tag.
Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers running back
One of the NFL’s best running backs would be the hottest player on the free agent market should he become available. Even considering his injury history, Bell is a generational talent who would be a must-sign for almost any team in the NFL, even those with good running backs.
With an impending Antonio Brown extension nearing, Pittsburgh will have a rare opportunity to lock up two elite players to long-term deals in the same offseason. If Bell wants to become the NFL’s highest-paid back, however, the Steelers would be forced to use the franchise tag.
Game Womens Cal Clutterbuck Jersey Westbrook couldn¡¯t resist the urge to take it to his former teammate. The stage was too massive; the basketball world was salivating for it. He had to give the audience what it wanted.
According to ESPN Stats & Information data, Durant guarded Westbrook on a total of seven plays. Westbrook went 2-of-5 for eight points on those plays and committed one turnover.
The Warriors got Westbrook to go one-on-one instead of running the offense. Westbrook¡¯s eight assists accounted for 19 points. But that was almost offset by his turnovers, which equated to 15 points for the Warriors, per ESPN Stats & Information research.

Anthony needed just eight points to move into the top 25 in league scoring history, but his 25-point outing helped give the Knicks a much-needed win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.
New York ended a four-game losing streak and avoided the franchise¡¯s first-ever five-game home skid. Even better, Anthony displaced Charles Barkley for the 25th spot in points lore.
The Knicks are still several games behind the Detroit Pistons for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt, and Anthony acknowledged it will take more than one win to clear the skies of the dark cloud that¡¯s been hanging over the franchise mired in controversy in recent weeks.
¡°I won¡¯t say the cloud is gone in one day,¡± he said. ¡°It snowed the other day. And it¡¯s still snow outside. I wouldn¡¯t say the cloud is gone, but for us to come out and get the win tonight is definitely a relief from everything that¡¯s going on.¡±
The old adage goes ¡°Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it, you will land among the stars.¡±
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green fell just six points shy of landing on the moon in his team¡¯s 122-107 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. But in landing among the stars, Green posted 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals, becoming the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double without scoring at least 10 points, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
Green¡¯s historic night was highlighted by 10 takeaways, most in a single game in franchise history. The Warriors power forward fell just a few points shy of joining Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, David Robinson and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only players to record a quadruple-double.
But Golden State¡¯s victory, while much due to Green¡¯s production, featured all of its players.

Klay Thompson poured in 36 points on 8-of-15 shooting from downtown. Kevin Durant chimed in with 24 points on a cold 5-of-14 shooting night, while Andre Iguodala gave the Warriors a much needed bench boost with 22 points on an efficient 6-of-7 shooting from the field.

If things couldn¡¯t get worse in New York, fans showered the court with chants of ¡°We want Oakley¡± and ¡°Free Charles Oakley¡± during the Knicks¡¯ 131-123 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday. The scene was part of a bizarre string of events Carmelo Anthony categorized as a ¡°cloud hanging over¡± the organization.
Knicks owner James Dolan permanently banned Oakley, a 10-year player and one-time All-Star in New York, on Friday after New York Police Department officers arrested the former Knick after an altercation with Madison Square Garden officials. He was later charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault.
Tom Brady led the Patriots to the largest comeback in Super Bowl history, finishing 43-of-62 for 466 yards and two touchdowns. Brady drove New England down the field on a 10-play, 91-yard drive to tie the game with 57 seconds left in the fourth quarter and an eight-play, 75-yard drive to win the game in overtime. The Falcons¡¯ pass rush did find success getting pressure on Brady and sacked him five times, three by Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. Brady also threw a pick-six in the second half — his first in a playoff game.
Elite Womens Nat Berhe Jersey The Patriots¡¯ running game got off to a bad start when LeGarrette Blount fumbled early in the second quarter, leading to the Falcons¡¯ first touchdown of the game. It was Blount¡¯s first fumble since Week 2 and his first lost fumble since Week 1. Blount and Dion Lewis combined to average 3.4 yards per carry, and the team finished with 104 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns, thanks to James White’s impressive performance.
On Sunday night, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan showed why he was the NFL MVP this season. Ryan finished 17-of-23 for 284 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 12.3 yards per attempt. New England¡¯s offense dominated the time of possession in the second half while playing catch-up, so Ryan¡¯s numbers weren¡¯t overwhelming, but they were certainly efficient, especially in the first half. But, the Patriots contained Julio Jones well by double-teaming him for most of the night and holding him to four catches for 87 yards and were able to limit Ryan in the second half.

The Falcons ran for 104 yards and 5.8 yards per carry. Devonta Freeman found the end zone early in the second quarter and proved difficult for the Patriots to bring down all night. On his 11 carries, he ran for an impressive 75 yards, 37 of which came on the Falcons¡¯ first drive of the game.
Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski missed an extra point, and punter Ryan Allen averaged just 41.5 yards per punt.
Running back Tevin Coleman didn’t play when the Falcons faced the Packers in that Week 8 game. He was nursing a hamstring injury. Coleman’s replacement, Terron Ward, was the Falcons’ leading rusher in that game with 46 yards on six carries. But no running back on the Falcons’ roster is more explosive than Coleman. He can take it the distance on any play, and his improved hands have made him a more viable option as a pass-catcher. The one-two combo of Coleman and Devonta Freeman can be devastating when clicking on all cylinders.
Everyone knows Freeman is a do-it-all back with great toughness. But if the Falcons can find ways to get Coleman in the open field, look out. He had 11 touchdowns during the regular season and another one last week on a 14-yard reception when the Seahawks lost him in coverage.
No one questions Rodgers’ leadership now. Not after running after the table, not after Dallas. Before that final throw, Rodgers essentially drew up the play to Cook in the huddle. He was animated, gesturing as he yelled out directions to 10 teammates under the backdrop of 100,000 screaming fans.
“I said everybody kind of run over to the left, and get open — not exactly in those words, but that was basically the gist of it,” Rodgers later told the Dan Le Batard Show.
He was so into it that left tackle David Bakhtiari motioned to his quarterback to speed it up because they were running out of time.
And here, there were no communication issues, no bad vibes. A franchise quarterback was talking, and everyone listened.
“I don’t know if I’m smart enough to be able to figure out if he’s different,” he said. “He’s always been that leader since he got here; he’s always been the one wanting to step on the gas and go get it. And he doesn’t have any quit in him. I think the players on offense and even the defensive guys know that if they just give him a chance, we might be able to win a game that maybe we shouldn’t. He has that kind of magic.”
Limited Mens Ray Nitschke Jersey The NFL Players Association will pursue collusion charges against the Broncos and the Cowboys if Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant do not sign long-term deals with their teams, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano. If the case does indeed go forward and the union wins, it could result in a payout worth more than $48 million for each receiver.
It was first reported two days ago that the union was looking into the possibility of collusion between executives from both teams; now, the NFLPA believes it has the evidence to proceed with a case. The union’s evidence stems from a reported conversation between Bryant and Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones in which Jones told Bryant that he had discussed their contract negotiations with Broncos team president John Elway.
If the Players Association can prove its claim, one or both players could be awarded a payout worth up to three times what Calvin Johnson, the NFL’s highest paid receiver, makes at roughly $16.2 million per year.
Both players are haggling for long-term extensions after being handed franchise tags this offseason. The tag means both players will earn $12.823 million next season, making them some of the highest-paid receivers in the league. The tag comes with little security, however. Without extensions in place, Thomas and Bryant are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in 2016.

The two are roughly equivalent players, so it would make sense if the Broncos and Cowboys wanted to get together to discuss their situations. Bryant and Thomas should command similar deals when or if they are extended. The problem is that NFL teams are prohibited from making such contact. By discussing contract terms with one another, the Broncos and Cowboys could, in theory, artificially cap the market value of their wideouts.
The same team that lost its final six games of 2016 has launched its 2017 by winning six in a row, good for the league’s longest active winning streak; when comparing the two stretches, the Clippers have been fueled by a dramatic improvement defensively. Tuesday, meanwhile, marks a full four weeks since Blake Griffin was shelved to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Doc Rivers said Griffin is progressing “great,” which means a return by month’s end is in play. The Clippers’ limited trade assets, by comparison, mean that as much as Rivers would like to strengthen his roster, it’s going to be tough for L.A. to make an impactful move. So maybe the closest thing to that has already happened; Kevin Garnett has officially signed on as a part-time Clips coaching consultant to work with their big men.

The Kings are now 1-5 on a crucial seven-game homestand after Sunday’s setback to Oklahoma City at Golden 1 Center. The one victory Sacramento managed, over unraveling Detroit, required a comeback from 18 points, which gave Sacramento three such resurrections this season to rank No. 1 in the league in that category. DeMarcus Cousins has been too good individually to be denied an All-Star invite by West coaches, but the Kings just don’t look like legit playoff material … especially with that eight-game road trip we keep bringing up almost upon them. Defense continues to be a big problem; Sacramento had slipped into the bottom five of the league in defensive efficiency by the time the Russell Westbrook Triple-Double Train pulled into town.

Reggie Jackson has absorbed the brunt of the scrutiny generated by Detroit’s plummet to five games under .500 because the Pistons were 11-10 without their $80 Million Man and are a distressing 8-14 since Jackson returned to the lineup Dec. 4. Yet it seems fair to wonder whether Andre Drummond has been let off too easy in the scrutiny department, given his inability to take the next step this season in the wake of last summer’s mammoth $127 million extension. Sunday’s half-court fling against the Lakers aside, Drummond has generated little-to-no buzz when it comes to securing his second straight All-Star berth this season. That can’t all be on Jackson.
Murphy was asked if he knew of a retired quarterback who could’ve completed that pass. He paused. “You hate to bring up a Cowboy,” he said, “but Roger Staubach in his prime.”
Murphy agreed with a reporter’s suggestion that John Elway could’ve also completed that pass before saying, “It’s a small number.”
That’s why Jerry Jones, losing owner, said he has never seen an individual player do more to dictate the outcome of a game. That’s why Dak Prescott, losing quarterback, said he was all but mesmerized watching his counterpart do his thing.
“It’s incredible watching him,” the rookie said. “I hate it in this circumstance, but he is an incredible quarterback.”
Cornerback Robert Alford said coming into the game the defense was “underrated” based on regular-season missteps. Well, either Dallas or Green Bay certainly won’t take anything for granted in next Sunday’s NFC Championship Game after seeing how the Falcons flew around the field.
Game Youth Tim Hardaway Jr. Jersey “You’ve got to play with confidence in this game,” Alford said. “Right now, it’s win or go home. If you don’t have confidence, you already lost. Confidence is something that we’re going to play with each and every week.
“This is football. You’re going to give up some plays. The opponent gets paid, too. It’s not like we’re out there playing against slouches or high school receivers. They are going to catch balls. It’s just how you bounce back from it and what you can do the next play for your team.”
