Rudy Gay, Spurs agree to a 2-year, $17 million deal, per report

Rudy Gay and the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a two-year deal worth $17 million, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The second year of the deal will have a player’s option.
Game Kids Nat Moore Jersey
Gay declined a $14 million option this summer to become a free agent, opting to choose his own path rather than return to the Sacramento Kings. On one hand, his new Spurs deal is up to $6 million less than he could have made. On the other, though, the Spurs are one of the league’s top four or five teams, while the Kings are … well, you know. For a player going into his 12th NBA season with $118 million in career earnings, it’s understandable if winning was more important to him.

Dedmon is still relatively young at 27, and has only played four years in the league. He had a breakout season under Coach Gregg Popovich in San Antonio, starting 37 games and playing in 76. All of Dedmon’s averages last year were career highs for him, but his most impressive outing was a game where he played 32 minutes while putting up 17 points and 17 rebounds in a 103-92 win over the Pistons. With the ability to get more playing time in Atlanta, Hawks fans can hope to see more of this side of Dedmon.

Game Kids Tyrone Crawford Jersey This will certainly be Dedmon’s best opportunity to become a starter in the league. The Hawks have moved on from Dwight Howard, Paul Millsap, and Tim Hardaway Jr. this summer, making Dedmon the team’s biggest free agency target. Dedmon is absolutely a serviceable front court player and can fill a need for the Hawks in that department. He’s a great rebounder and has an arsenal of post moves that can grow even further in Atlanta.

He made three bogeys in his first six holes, and the excoriating takes from golf purists were already in the oven.

Then he went out and posted 74-74. That should surpass anyone’s expectations, even the most optimistic homer. The 74 on Thursday, when the pressure and scrutiny were most intense and Curry admitted he was most nervous, could have been even better. He threw away a couple of shots coming into the clubhouse and could have posted a 73 or 72. And when it looked like it might go bad, Steph held on and avoided the astronomical number. He hit some wayward shots and found himself playing out of the junk quite often, but there were no snowmen or quadruple bogeys or even triple bogeys.

Elite Mens Tobias Enstrom Jersey Steph has a good swing, played as the top guy on his high school golf team, is obviously a great athlete, and actually works at the game in his spare time. But it’s spare time — he’s not a pro and he doesn’t grind on this all year like the pros and top amateurs. So the 74-74 was still unexpected. He should be relieved and happy with it. He didn’t just avoid embarrassment, but he actually impressed. It was fantastic, and don’t let anyone say otherwise.

Steph exceeded expectations, but he still finished ahead of just three pros and one amateur in a field of more than 150 players. Pros have bad days and get blown out to sea, too. Steph never had a chance to make the cut, but finishing DFL also was not a lock:

Little League World Series 2017 live stream: Times, TV schedule, and how to watch Thursday online

The 2017 Little League World Series is here, the 71st annual tournament of United States and international teams, vying for the title of best team of 11- to 13-year-old baseball players in the world.

The double-elimination tournament begins on Thursday from Williamsport, Pa., with ESPN televising all four games on the opening day. Online streaming of every game is available through WatchESPN.

Italy may have lost the battle, but center fielder Matteo Giovanelli won the war, thanks to this pro-like superstition:

In the opener on Thursday, Venezuela — representing Latin America — beat Mexico 4-1. Venezuela was helped out by defensive plays like this, a double play to end the first inning.

In the nightcap, the Southwest region team from Lufkin, Texas hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in a 5-1 win over Grosse Pointe, Michigan, representing the Great Lakes region.

Latin America and Canada will battle on Sunday, as will New England and Southwest. Saturday will feature elimination games, with Mexico playing Italy on the international side and Mid-Atlantic playing Great Lakes in the U.S. bracket.

After Jose Reyes left pregame warm ups with a left rib injury to match Wilmer Flores, Collins had holes to fill at second base and third base. And because this is the Mets, and the fates aligned in such a way over the course of a franchise, the best option was to put Travis d’Arnaud at third. And then second. And then third. Kind of like hot potato, but the aim was to keep the baseball away from a guy who hasn’t seen the infield since a few games in 2012.

The Panthers are coming off a bitterly disappointing Super Bowl hangover

Houston will be without second-year receiver Will Fuller, who broke his collarbone in camp last week. That leaves the No. 2 receiver wide open between Braxton Miller and Jaelen Strong. Miller battled injuries in his rookie year but showed flashes of promise while he converted from quarterback to receiver.

Mens Ricky Wagner Jersey The Panthers are coming off a bitterly disappointing Super Bowl hangover, going 6-10 just one year after finishing 15-1 and winning the NFC behind Cam Newton’s MVP performance. Newton took a sharp step backward, completing a career-worst 52.9 percent of his passes and throwing just 19 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. He’s will sit out the first preseason game while still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, with Derek Anderson getting the start.

Despite Newton’s injury worries, he should be ready for Week 1 and has a new shiny weapon. Carolina went out of its way to add more speed and versatility, drafting Christian McCaffery in the first round and Curtis Samuel in the second. Both men should play a heavy role in their rookie years, with McCaffery in particular adding a new dimension to the offense. Those two should be the big names to watch in the Panthers’ preseason opener.
Mens Dennis Rodman Jersey
Watson finally got the night off here, making way for Brandon Weeden late in the fourth. Weeden completed 15 of 25 yards for 179 yards and a rushing touchdown. There’s room for improvement, but he certainly looked like he belongs on an NFL field.

Ka’imi Fairbairn shanked a 55-yard field goal attempt, denying the Texans a chance to get the game closer.

Rookie kicker Harrison Butker — competing with Graham Gano — got a chance to shine here, nailing a 51-yard field goal to give Carolina another double-digit lead.

The Texans nearly tied things up when the defense recovered a fumble and ran it back for a score, but replay determined that it was an incomplete pass instead. The Panthers punted.

Sabres’ Kyle Okposo released from hospital, report says

Sabres forward Kyle Okposo was released from the hospital Friday afternoon, WIVB.com reported, citing un unidentified source with knowledge of the situation.

He’s allowed just six goals in that stretch with a .953 save percentage.

Bishop’s play helped rejuvenate the Lightning’s marginal playoff hopes, complicating general manager Steve Yzerman’s decision whether to hold on to his star netminder for a potential playoff run. Instead Yzerman cut bait, recouping a few assets for a player bound to command a premium on the open market this summer a price the Lightning could not afford.

Limited Womens Alexander Burmistrov Jersey How the Kings plan to use Bishop is another story.

In the thick of the Western Conference playoff race, Los Angeles may not have been sold on Quick’s health prospects should it qualify.

The 31-year-old was sharp in a 4-1 win over the Ducks on Saturday, but there are question marks. It was Quick’s first start since he was injured in the season opener Oct. 12.

Budaj, one of the NHL’s best stories with seven shutouts, went 27-20-3 filling in for Quick. At 34, he began this season in the AHL but emerged as a viable option in net within the Kings’ stingy defensive system. He’ll likely split time Andrei Vasilevskiy, 22, as the Lightning continue their uphill playoff push sans Bishop.

Tampa Bay was seven points out of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference at the time of Sunday’s trade.

MLB trade rumors: Cubs ‘working hard’ to land Justin Wilson

The Cubs are working hard to land Tigers reliever Justin Wilson, FOX’s Ken Rosenthal reports. Detroit is likely to trade Wilson by the end of the night, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
Youth DeForest Buckner Jersey
Detroit is said to like Cubs prospect Jeimer Candelario, who is out of the lineup at Triple-A Iowa tonight. The clubs have also discussed Tigers catcher Alex Avila in talks, so a package deal is possible.

About 10 teams have been linked to the Wilson sweepstakes to this point, though the Cubs, Dodgers, Astros and Nationals, are seen as the favorites. Wilson, along with San Diego’s Brad Hand and Baltimore’s Zach Britton, is viewed as one of the top available relievers on the market.

Youth Allen Bailey Jersey That’s impressive no matter what the details, but it’s now come to light that the Marlins consulted NASA about how to build their park so that this exact thing would not happen during a game. Yes, that NASA. With all the geniuses and scientific accuracy and stuff.

In an anecdote from a recent Sports Illustrated article, SI’s Tom Verducci revealed that while the park was being built the organization studied the air density and temperatures of Miami and plugged those variables into equations from NASA before then writing an algorithm to generate a volumetric approximation of all the possible batted ball flight paths to make sure that nothing white and spherical would even come close to touching that retractable roof of theirs.

Aaron Judge just blew all that math and science to smithereens.

Mike Ditka: Mitchell Trubisky’s debut better than any rookie performance of Tom Brady, Fran Tarkenton

Mike Ditka liked what he saw from Mitchell Trubisky in his NFL preseason debut. He liked it so much he brought up Tom Brady and Fran Tarkenton when talking about the performance.

“What I saw out of Trubisky for a rookie in his first game I thought was outstanding,” he said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune. “I don’t know too many rookies, including Tom Brady, Fran Tarkenton or anybody else that’s ever had that kind of a start. Now, one game doesn’t make a career — I understand that — but the kid looked awfully good, he looked awfully composed, he threw the ball very accurately. I thought he made good decisions all the way through; avoided the rush at times.”

To cover their bases, the Dolphins signed former Bears quarterback Jay Cutler to a one-year deal and are working harder with backup Matt Moore.

For now, Tannehill will be doing what he can to help Cutler, Moore and the rest of the players and staff out from the sidelines.

“I know there’ll be times where he’ll be rehabbing at other facilities,” Gase said. “He’s got a good plan mapped out. He’s done a good job of communicating with our training staff, our doctors. They’re all kind of on the same page. I’m going to know when he’s not going to be here. There will be some weeks where he’s around a lot and he’ll be able to help the coaching staff and the players.”

Lindley won only one of his six starts for the Cards from 2012-’14, posting a dismal 50.8 completion percentage, a horrendous 2-11 TD-INT ratio and a microscopic 50.3 rating while averaging only 146 yards per game. Even worse, because of injury, he had to start a forgettable playoff game against the Panthers. He was 16-of-28 for 82 yards, a TD and 2 INTs, “good” for a rating of 44.3 while being sacked four times. Consider Tom Tupa, who was a much better NFL punter, as the close runner-up.dolphins_002

Julio Jones is being limited during training camp as he recovers from offseason foot surgery.

Game Tyrunn Walker Jersey It’s not just the current incarnation of the Browns that has struggled to find a reliable QB in the Super Bowl era. Phipps, taken No. 3 overall in 1970, was more than a bad blip. He somehow lasted seven seasons with the team while throwing 81 interceptions to only 40 touchdowns for a 51.0 rating. He had a few years of overall team success, but Cleveland’s offense looked much better with Brian Sipe, then Bernie Kosar.

After Hutchinson’s MLB pitching career with the Cardinals was done after a bad, short stint in 2001, the Cowboys thought the former Stanford star could rebound as their powerful righty at 6-5, 230. They were wrong. Dallas went 2-7 with Hutchinson. He wasn’t as bad as some others here with his 66.3 rating, but he was rattled with 34 sacks. Quincy Carter, another baseball player, and Gary Hogeboom, a future Survivor contestant, were strong runners-up.

Ryan: I always feel like there’s areas to improve, regardless of how long you’ve been doing it or if you’re playing at a high level. There’s always better. Regardless of any season, no matter how good you’re playing, when you’re getting hit and you’re in the pocket, your feet tend to get out of whack just a little bit because that’s playing the game.

Julio Jones is being limited during training camp as he recovers from offseason foot surgery. How do you work on making sure your chemistry remains strong under those circumstances?

I just get the vibe that our team is focused on that and we’re not dwelling on what happened before. And that’s a good thing. We want to find out how good this 2017 Falcons team can be.

Ryan: When the season ends, everyone kind of goes their separate ways. Everybody has family and commitments. That’s good and everybody should enjoy that as much as they can. But (the camp) is also great because I feel like we have something special to get together, to reconnect away from our building too, just players. Catch up, see what’s going on with everybody’s lives, be open and honest about what we were feeling, and all those kind of things. I think guys were into it.

Lester’s struggles with throwing to first base were well-documented despite ridding himself of the yips this season.

He kinda goes off of what Jon says, Borzello said. He’s more of a listener when it comes to that relationship because he’s the one learning. Rossy (David Ross) was guiding Jon along all the time. Rossy’s just another another level of leadership and intelligence behind the plate.

Their chemistry appeared evident on Jul. 23 versus the St. Louis Cardinals, as Lester carried a perfect game into the sixth inning. Borzello credited a chunk of that to Contreras recognizing Lester’s quick pace early on. From there, the 6-1, 210-pound catcher could essentially call any pitch he pleased.

Moreover, Lester’s struggles with throwing to first base were well-documented despite ridding himself of the yips this season. Contreras has aided those past concerns as well, racking up the second-most pickoffs (5) by a catcher in 2017. The organization converted him from an infielder to his current position in 2011, and Borzello said his arm strength and athleticism is superior to many backstops across the league.

Somewhat surprisingly, Thomas missed the cut in three consecutive events after that, including The Open. He quietly tied for 28th last week at the WGC-Bridgestone, then opened the PGA with a 73, before rounds of 66 and 69 put him in contention.

Perhaps Thomas got some of the karma that often goes Spieth’s way. On the par-5 10th hole, Thomas’ tee shot kicked out of a tree and into the fairway. And then 8-footer putt that appeared to have missed, teetered on the edge — and then after about 10 seconds, dropped for a birdie.

Out of everything and everybody that was likely at that event, this was the one thing that stuck out to him to post on his Instagram. His season did end on a sour note, throwing a back-breaking late interception to cost Washington a playoff spot, but for the most part Cousins is worth committing to as a starting quarterback. There are plenty of teams who would to have someone at his level, and pay him like a franchise guy.

Now here’s the catch: Washington hasn’t committed to Cousins for the long term. They gave him the franchise tag last offseason, which made sense at the time — hedge your bets in case Cousins turns back into a pumpkin. But after another solid season, Washington still couldn’t lock up Cousins to a multiyear deal. He got the tag for a second time, and the July 17 deadline came and went with no new contract.

One of the biggest sticking points, at least on Cousins’ end, was the guaranteed money. Although the offer Washington made public contained $53 million in guarantees, it’s barely more than what Cousins would’ve already earned with the franchise tag money. He made $19.953 million last year and will take home $23.943 million this season. He’s now set to be a free agent next offseason, and if Washington tags him a third time, his salary will balloon to well over $30 million. Cousins owns the leverage now, and Washington only has itself to blame.
