Former Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly was a notable absence from Wednesday’s list of NFL Combine invitees, and Bleacher Report says the snub has to do with his off-field issues.
Produced by the Rhode Island-based World War II Foundation & Tim Gray Media, the one-hour documentary will mix drone and helicopter footage of the battle sites, archival footage, animations and interviews of surviving participants to tell the story of the battle that turned the tide in World War II in 1944.
World War II Foundation chairman and film producer Tim Gray said Belichick has been a longtime supporter of his organization’s mission.
“This is a very exciting day for the San Francisco 49ers and our fans,” 49ers CEO Jed York said in a statement. “Throughout this process, we learned many things about Kyle that convinced us he is the perfect coach to lead this team. Over the years, he has proven to be one of the brightest minds in the game of football and his recent success speaks for itself. Kyle’s leadership has brought the best out of his players at every phase of his career and we look forward to watching him build a talented staff to accomplish the same with our players.”
A 34-28 loss to the Patriots in Super Bowl 51 will travel with Shanahan to the Bay Area. His play-calling in the fourth quarter came into question as the Falcons blew a 25-point lead to the eventual champion Patriots.
Shanahan, who interviewed twice with the Niners during the playoffs, will be the 19th head coach in the 49ers’ 71-year history and, at 37, the second-youngest head coach in the NFL behind the Rams’ Sean McVay, 30.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick doesn’t appreciate criticism leveled at him following his team’s loss to the Carolina Panthers. The third-year quarterback responded to ESPN’s Trent Dilfer, who called him a “remedial” passer that struggles when teams take away his first read.
Dilfer’s core criticism stemmed from a perceived lack of development, which he elaborated to Sports Illustrated on Tuesday.
The 49ers’ tight end depth was tested on Sunday with Vernon Davis leaving the game with a concussion and backup Garrett Celek exciting with a hamstring injury. Neither player returned to the game. The 49ers’ offense has struggled mightily without Davis, so his health will be something to watch moving forward.
Davis wasn’t the only 49er to leave with a concussion, with rookie safety Eric Reid also suffering a concussion. This is the second concussion Reid has suffered this season and the safety is likely to miss Sunday’s game against New Orleans.
The Falcons dropped to 2-7 on the season with a loss to Seattle and Atlanta continues to deal with injury issues. Tight end Tony Gonzalez suffered a toe injury against Seattle. Gonzalez returned to the game and played through the injury, but said he would have to wait and see how it responds during the week, according to Vaughn McClure. Gonzalez has not missed a game since 2006.
Sam Baker missed Sunday’s game and head coach Mike Smith said he is concerned about the left tackle’s knee injury because it has lingered all season. There is a chance Baker will be placed on injured reserve. Atlanta will get some good news, with the return of linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, who is expected to be activated from injured reserve early this week.
