Creighton¡¯s Maurice Watson Jr. charged with first-degree sexual assault

Creighton point guard Maurice Watson has been charged with first degree sexual assault with a bail set at $750,000. Watson allegedly forced a 19-year-old girl into having nonconsensual sex. The disturbing details can be read at the Omaha World-Herald.

Francisco Rodriguez Elite Jersey If convicted, Watson faces up to 50 years in prison.

Watson, a senior who saw his college career end after suffering a torn ACL in January, was suspended from all athletic-related events at Creighton on Feb. 13. He has also been barred from participating in the Bluejays¡¯ senior day festivities on Feb. 28. He is no longer enrolled at the school.

On the morning of Feb. 4, Omaha police were called to a local hospital where a woman had told doctors that she had been forced into non-consensual sex in the bathroom of her home earlier that morning. Omaha police confirmed that the man accused of committing the crime was Watson.

Before his season ended, Watson was averaging 12.9 points and 8.5 assists per game, the highest assist average in the country. The 23rd-ranked Bluejays have gone 4-5 since his injury.

My response to that is that the league office is still making a ridiculous amount of money for a non-profit if they can pay Roger Goodell $44 million a year, which is twice what the highest paid player makes, and twice what the CEO of Walmart makes. Also, I have never seen the NFL promote anything but the NFL. A trade organization they are not. There’s something not right with these answers.

Further, I have heard other tax attorneys say that their taxes could amount to plenty, enough that the American people should not be denied that flow of money. The sports lawyer Andrew Delaney claims the NFL is set up as a glorified tax shelter, allowing the league to negotiate new stadium deals that benefit the owners and the league office tremendously, but once again dip into the tax-payers’ pockets.

Edelman has been Brady’s most reliable target this season

Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay’s offense, which took a beating in the media this past week for ineffectiveness and anemia, answered their critics as they exploded for 38 points in a blowout win in Chicago. Rodgers was masterful as he threw four touchdowns on 22-of-28 passing (78 percent), leaning on Jordy Nelson (10 catches, 108 yards, two touchdowns) and Randall Cobb (seven catches, 113 yards, two touchdowns). This was the kind of performance that the Pack’s offense needed, and they’ll undoubtedly look to build on it going forward.

Patriots wide receivers not named Julian Edelman – Edelman has been Brady’s most reliable target this season, while the Pats’ other receivers have struggled to catch the ball. Brady is completing 85 percent of his passes to Edelman, compared to just 51 percent to all other receivers, and Edelman has twice as many receptions as any other Patriot this season.

Chiefs offensive line – Alex Smith has been sacked 11 times and has been under pressure on 45 of his 124 dropbacks, according to Pro Football Focus. Only Chad Henne has been sacked more times this season, and only Jake Locker has been under pressure on more dropbacks. It could be a long night in Kansas City if the Chiefs can’t keep Smith upright against the Patriots.

Tom Brady – The Patriots are 2-1 this season thanks mostly to their fourth-ranked defense, and many are wondering whether Father Time has finally caught up to the 37-year-old. While Peyton Manning is thriving as he approaches age 40, Brady appears to be regressing. This primetime game is a chance for Brady to prove that he is still an elite quarterback and capable of leading the Patriots deep into the playoffs.

Andrew Cogliano Authentic Jersey The Packers gave up an absurd 235 yards rushing to the Bears in this one and in total gave up 496 yards of offense to Jay Cutler’s group. That’s slightly sobering, though Green Bay got the job done with two crucial picks of Cutler in the third quarter.

Ranking the potential landing spots for Tony Romo

In a sport tilted toward quarterback value, the 2017 offseason is shaping up as one of the most interesting in recent years. In Tony Romo, Jay Cutler and Jimmy Garoppolo, three of football’s top 25 quarterbacks could be on the move after sitting out the majority of the 2016 season. In Tyrod Taylor, Mike Glennon, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Nick Foles, five more veteran signal-callers could find themselves at the helm of new offenses by Week 1.

That motley menagerie of available quarterbacks doesn’t even include top free agent Kirk Cousins, who seems unlikely to escape a Washington organization ready to once again wield the franchise tag.

Although Garoppolo will be the most sought-after commodity, Romo is dominating headlines leading up to the March 9th league year.

Appearing on Monday’s edition of Good Morning Football, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport outlined the plan for Romo. Amid speculation that Dallas’ displaced starter expects to be released, Rapoport emphasized that the Cowboys’ first priority is to gauge the trade market in search of a mid-round draft pick.

Romo knows that a release would be a smoother path toward his preferred destination, per Rapoport, but he also understands the Cowboys won’t send him anywhere against his approval.

“So even a trade can be okay with him,” Rapoport explained, “because he knows the Cowboys will take care of him and he would get a new contract anyway.”

That said, it will be a challenge for Jerry and Stephen Jones to find a team willing to part with valuable draft-pick compensation for a quarterback who turns 37 in April and has missed 27 of his last 32 games due to injury.

Although Romo’s relationship with the Cowboys is not as contentious, his current scenario is reminiscent of Brett Favre’s breakup with Green Bay in 2008. Nearing the end of the line as a high-risk 38-year-old starter, Favre had the potential to make-or-break his new team’s season.

If one or both of them enjoy a renaissance, that¡¯s great! Found money. That¡¯s a common expression, but in this case, it would really be like the Nationals finding sacks of cartoonish cash that they had previously thrown down a well. But if either of them repeats their 2016 seasons, the Nationals will feel a little more comfortable phasing them out.

In Zimmerman¡¯s case, that means Adam Lind could get the bulk of the at-bats. In Werth¡¯s case, it could be that someone like Brian Goodwin or Rafael Bautista breaks out, or it could be a July trade that¡¯s suddenly obvious. Victor Robles arriving one or two years ahead of schedule would be 35-grade weird on the 20-to-80 baseball-weird scale, if not lower.

They¡¯ll figure it out, and the 2016 season being entered into evidence will make it a lot easier for the Nationals to make whatever decision they need to.

Does that header need an ¡°again¡± at the end? I¡¯ll leave that up for you. But for five seasons, Strasburg has been baseball¡¯s greatest latent ace, the top-o¡¯-the-rotation tease of a generation. His strikeout rate has been improving every season, and he¡¯s further removed from Tommy John surgery than he¡¯s ever been, but the overall value keeps steady, somehow.

Super Bowl 2016: How to watch the halftime show live online, stream info and more

Not every person who watches the Super Bowl does so purely for the game itself. For many, the multi-million dollar commercials or gambling are as much or more of a draw. In that vein, the Super Bowl halftime show draws considerable attention.

This year, pop superstar Katy Perry and special guest Lenny Kravitz will headline the halftime show. The NFL revealed Perry as the top performer back in November. She later announced in January that Kravitz would be joining her.

Perry has sold millions of albums and is best known for hits like “Hot N Cold,” “I Kissed a Girl” and “Firework.” In 2010, her album Teenage Dream became the first to spawn five No. 1 hits since Michael Jackson’s Thriller nearly three decades earlier. More recently, her album Prism produced hits “Roar,” “Dark Horse” and more. Before Perry became a successful pop star, she performed under her given name Katy Hudson as a contemporary Christian rock act.

Jones Jr. might have had the best dunk of the night, dunking off the side of the backboard through his legs.

But his “it’s over” slash was premature — he couldn’t nail his final dunk and Robinson took the title.

DeAndre Jordan, the fourth participant, had two average dunks but didn’t stand out. While Gordon’s drone attempt was creative, he needed too many attempts before throwing it done for it to really be an effective slam.

Look: dunking is already really hard, and the expectations for these contests are sky high. It’s a shame this one fell flat, but it happens. Congratulations to Robinson, who was good even if the rest of it was average.

Michael Brantley behind other Indians position players in camp

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that outfielder Michael Brantley is behind the other position players in camp and will not be ready to play when the Cactus League schedule begins Feb. 25 against the Cincinnati Reds.

Brantley’s availability for the regular-season opener against Texas on April 3 will depend on the strides he’s able to make in his rehab from surgery to repair a torn right biceps. The Indians will leave that part of the equation up to him.

“He’s following the protocols the medical people put in place,” Francona said. “By all accounts, he’s doing everything. This kid has worked his ass off. We just need to be patient and allow him to try to get to the point where he can not only come back, but stay back.

Julius Nattinen Womens Jersey “After not having him for a whole year, he deserves to do it right. He’s worked so hard, and to have him back will be so nice. We’re going to do it right so he can have his best chance to be successful.”

James Carpenter Youth Jersey A key player is first baseman Ryan Zimmerman. He has been with the Nationals since 2005 but has gone from star to fading franchise player with the back of a 70-year-old. He has something to prove. Dusty has something to prove. Even Harper, coming off a bad season, at least in comparison to his monster 2015 campaign, has something to prove.

Most of all, they have to prove it in October. Maybe baseball can unite our nation’s capital. (OK, maybe not, but it’s worth a try.)

Maybe it starts with the best player in the game. Mike Trout isn’t just the Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle of his generation; he’s Mays or Mantle and doing it against much tougher competition. The caliber of athlete in today’s game, both on the mound and in the field, is better than ever, and Trout is the pre-eminent player, with two MVP awards and three MVP runner-up finishes in his first five seasons. No position player has had more wins above replacement through age 24; he’s at 48.5, and the only others above 40 were Ty Cobb and Mantle. Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr. rank fourth and fifth on the list.

Which NFL players are getting the franchise tag in 2017?

The 2017 NFL offseason is here, which should hopefully spare us from the Super Bowl conspiracy theories for at least a little while. Feb. 15 marks the first day teams are able to designate franchise players. The deadline for teams to utilize the franchise tag, should they choose, is March 1.

With a salary cap that has been increasing on a yearly basis, teams have been more reluctant to use the tag in recent years. Sixteen players have been tagged with either the franchise tag or transition tag over the past two seasons, though there have been plenty of special circumstances surrounding each use.

Last year, the Carolina Panthers opted to rescind their franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman, which made him a free agent. He soon signed with Washington. However, many other players, such as Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller, have signed long-term deals with their team in order to avoid playing the upcoming season under the tag.
Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers running back

One of the NFL’s best running backs would be the hottest player on the free agent market should he become available. Even considering his injury history, Bell is a generational talent who would be a must-sign for almost any team in the NFL, even those with good running backs.

With an impending Antonio Brown extension nearing, Pittsburgh will have a rare opportunity to lock up two elite players to long-term deals in the same offseason. If Bell wants to become the NFL’s highest-paid back, however, the Steelers would be forced to use the franchise tag.

According to ESPN Stats & Information data, Durant guarded Westbrook on a total of seven plays. Westbrook went 2-of-5 for eight points on those plays and committed one turnover.

The Warriors got Westbrook to go one-on-one instead of running the offense. Westbrook¡¯s eight assists accounted for 19 points. But that was almost offset by his turnovers, which equated to 15 points for the Warriors, per ESPN Stats & Information research.

Anthony needed just eight points to move into the top 25 in league scoring history, but his 25-point outing helped give the Knicks a much-needed win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

New York ended a four-game losing streak and avoided the franchise¡¯s first-ever five-game home skid. Even better, Anthony displaced Charles Barkley for the 25th spot in points lore.

The Knicks are still several games behind the Detroit Pistons for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt, and Anthony acknowledged it will take more than one win to clear the skies of the dark cloud that¡¯s been hanging over the franchise mired in controversy in recent weeks.

¡°I won¡¯t say the cloud is gone in one day,¡± he said. ¡°It snowed the other day. And it¡¯s still snow outside. I wouldn¡¯t say the cloud is gone, but for us to come out and get the win tonight is definitely a relief from everything that¡¯s going on.¡±

NBA scores 2017: Draymond Green posted a triple-double with just 4 points

The old adage goes ¡°Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it, you will land among the stars.¡±

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green fell just six points shy of landing on the moon in his team¡¯s 122-107 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. But in landing among the stars, Green posted 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals, becoming the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double without scoring at least 10 points, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Green¡¯s historic night was highlighted by 10 takeaways, most in a single game in franchise history. The Warriors power forward fell just a few points shy of joining Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, David Robinson and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only players to record a quadruple-double.

But Golden State¡¯s victory, while much due to Green¡¯s production, featured all of its players.

He was later charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault.

Grading the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI

Tom Brady led the Patriots to the largest comeback in Super Bowl history, finishing 43-of-62 for 466 yards and two touchdowns. Brady drove New England down the field on a 10-play, 91-yard drive to tie the game with 57 seconds left in the fourth quarter and an eight-play, 75-yard drive to win the game in overtime. The Falcons¡¯ pass rush did find success getting pressure on Brady and sacked him five times, three by Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. Brady also threw a pick-six in the second half — his first in a playoff game.

Elite Womens Nat Berhe Jersey The Patriots¡¯ running game got off to a bad start when LeGarrette Blount fumbled early in the second quarter, leading to the Falcons¡¯ first touchdown of the game. It was Blount¡¯s first fumble since Week 2 and his first lost fumble since Week 1. Blount and Dion Lewis combined to average 3.4 yards per carry, and the team finished with 104 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns, thanks to James White’s impressive performance.

On Sunday night, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan showed why he was the NFL MVP this season. Ryan finished 17-of-23 for 284 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 12.3 yards per attempt. New England¡¯s offense dominated the time of possession in the second half while playing catch-up, so Ryan¡¯s numbers weren¡¯t overwhelming, but they were certainly efficient, especially in the first half. But, the Patriots contained Julio Jones well by double-teaming him for most of the night and holding him to four catches for 87 yards and were able to limit Ryan in the second half.

The Falcons ran for 104 yards and 5.8 yards per carry. Devonta Freeman found the end zone early in the second quarter and proved difficult for the Patriots to bring down all night. On his 11 carries, he ran for an impressive 75 yards, 37 of which came on the Falcons¡¯ first drive of the game.

Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski missed an extra point, and punter Ryan Allen averaged just 41.5 yards per punt.
